Do you have banned names that you can't use where you live? I saw a list of 89 banned names today. Some of them were a bit obvious, then some seemed strange. Ned Kelly, for one. I don't understand why it would be illegal, he was a hero here. Adolf Hitler obviously is on the list. But then you can't have any regal titles.. Prince, Princess, Duke. Then military titles. You can't call your kid Australia. Names that are excessively long.. names deemed to be ''confusing'' because they resemble popular brand names. Who decides all this stuff anyway? |

a New York City man named Robert Lane gave his son the name Winner, and then named his next son Loser. Contrary to what his name suggests, Loser Lane succeeded in life, moving up in the New York City police department, where his colleagues called him Lou. Winner Lane, however, has been arrested nearly three dozen times. And Marijuana Pepsi Jackson, despite her name, has made something of her life, gaining a master's degree in education. |

The winner/loser thing makes me wonder.. did Loser try harder BECAUSE of his name? While Winner thought he could do whatever he wanted? It's like that Johnny Cash song about a boy named Sue. This kid is pissed about having a girl's name, but when he confronts his father about it.. his father says I knew you'd turn out to be tougher because everyone would give you sh*t about your name ![]() |

Dennis Bergkamp was originally going to be named after Denis Law.To comply with Dutch given name customs, an extra n was inserted in Bergkamp's first name by his father after it was not accepted by the registrar.[ |

In the UK, there isn't a comprehensive list of banned baby names. However, certain names are typically rejected by the Registering Officer when registering a child's name, according to Wikipedia. These names are generally those that are considered offensive, obscene, misleading, or impossible to pronounce. Examples of names that have been rejected include ''Cyanide'', ''Martian'', ''Monkey,'' or names that imply titles like ''King'' or ''Princess''.
