@ leveller - 26.10.15 - 11:07am @usbcable What hifi set up are you using? As regards the Pro-ject turntables, also concider Rega RP2 or RP3 if you can stretch to it. At the moment it's a very customised setup made of some very unique components.... The Raspberry Pi 2 computer running OSMC. (Open Source Media Centre) with 7 inch, 1080p Lillyput LCD Monitor Screen. A WIFI adapter, a wireless keyboard for text input. A wireless remote for quick armchair operation, a powered USB hub to connect a western digital USB hard disk and a Samsung Bluray/DVD/CD reader/writer. The IQaudIO Pi DAC+ board. This digital to analogue converter board plugs onto the raspberry pi 2 and provides extremely high sound quality. It features a stereo Burr Brown/Texas Instruments DAC capable of 32 bit 192KHz sample rate per channel. It has left and right phono analogue outputs and a low distortion headphone amplifier with no capacitors on the outputs going to a jack socket. My headphones are Beyerdynamic DT880 premium 250 ohm semi open back types. These sound absolutely fantastic, flat across the frequency range, no mid harshness, good bass and top end detail and very nice to listen to for long periods. |

The USB Samsung Bluray/DVD/CD player allows me to watch Films from discs and also play audio CDs . It has recently had it's second firmwire update which has hugely improved it's performance and speed of operation. The laser assembly is very responsive so I have know doubt it's reading every bit of information to ensue I'm getting very good sound reproduction.

I have been looking at getting an amplifier for my setup and the Cambridge Audio 651A is very high on my list. It's build quality looks first class and it's spec looks very good. I will be looking to audition this with some speakers and I'm particularly interested in the latest line up by KEF. I will let you all know how that goes.

In the future I will add the turntable after purchasing the amplifier. I might custom build my own dedicated RIAA phono stage for the turntable. For the time being what I have right now is excellent and affordable so anyone could build this if they so wish.

Rather than go for the Cambridge Audio anp, may I suggest a second hand Cyrus amp? I run a Marantz CD6004 cd player through a Cyrus 6vs amp driving a pair of Quad 11L speakers. I just love the sound. The dynamics and soundstaging are just superb.

When I play somthing like Pull the Sun From the Sky be New Model Army, it vindicates my choices. It is so sharp and snappy, each drum beat comes out with such verve, and instrument separation is excellent. When I listen through headphones, it is through Sennheiser HD558s.

I will look into the Cyrus amps. I've heard of this brand before, they make equipment that looks strange aesthetically but sounds awesome.
