Got it on Thursday for review and it has really been impressive, comes with a 6.76inch 90Hz refresh rate OLED Screen, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage with expansion available, powered by the Kirin9000 5nm chip which now has the 5G modem baked into the chip, a 4400mAh battery with 66W charger in the box, got a 50MP camera with a huge camera sensor backing it I think at this point Huawei own the Night Time photography scene due to the custom sensors Sony build for them. It also has a 5x Optical Zoom 12MP Periscope camera, 20MP ultra wide camera and a Laser Sensor. Overall pretty chuffed with it, AppGallery is growing quickly and so is Petal Search and then there is also the mod community who keep finding ways to get Google Services on these beasts, but I have not bothered with that as PetalSearch got me all that I wanted, and many apps like Whats App are downloadable straight from their developers websites.  |

Charged it to 100 percent on Friday morning, it only hit 11 percent today (Sunday), plugged it into the 66W charger and 43mins later it was back to 100 percent, absolutely amazing  crazy where phones are going. I imagine in 2-3 years time these phones will be charging from 0 to 100 in under 30 minutes.Really enjoying this device, it's nice and wide like a Galaxy Note, and not too narrow like what a lot of Androids are doing these days, so it sits nice in the hand. I feel like Huawei are beginning to hit their stride with their current situation, apps are becoming far less of a problem, I think now the big thing for them is to make the market realize that. Their lack of dependence on Google may pay off very well in a few years much like it has for Apple, owning your Software and Hardware is becoming crucial. |

There are rumours circulating that it could be the last Huawei phone with a Kurin custom chip cos of the restrictions, and even possibly the final android phone from them. Apparantly owners of new Huawei devices without Google services maybe offered an upgrade to Huawei's own operating system in the future.

Also: I discovered the kurin 9000 has an even higher transistor count than Apples A14 and by quite a wide margin too. Although I realise that doesnt necessarily mean its faster I did nevertheless find that interesting.

Google say the Huawei ban is not good for them either cos preventing Huawei using its version of Android could potentially result in national security issues through people using Huawei developed replacement 0.S now revealed to be Harmony 0.S. Its also means American chip makers are loosing business of course.

Personally, I dont think it has anything to do with Huawei having connections with the chinese the military, I think the U.S just didnt like it because at one point Huawei sales had overtaken Apples and that just wouldnt do. They were just doing too well as far as the U.S were concerned.

Yeah the current crop of P40, Mate 40 and Mate X2 are slated to get Harmony OS, I believe it is currently being Beta tested on the P40, Mate 40 and Mate X2 hardware. Kirin990 and Kirin9000 phones will be the first to get Harmony OS. Will be interesting to see where Huawei goes from there. I think the route they are taking is great, they can now be the masters of their own destiny |

They had certainly become far too successful for the US comfort but I doubt the US government did this for Apple, Samsung are the ones that saw the most impact out of Huawei gaining market share, while Apple were comfy in 3rd place as they were and always are 1st in terms of profit share which is what they care about. Apple are in their own world, it seems what happens in Android really only affects Android manufacturers who tend to eat each others lunch. Right now Samsung are having to fend off OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi etc.. some of these brands are owned by 1 parent company. Crazy where the market is . |

Indeed! I think they really got scared at just how far ahead China had advanced, Huawei was and is a symbol of Chinese progression, considering how far ahead their 5G tech is and efficiency they work at, it most definitely had the US worried. However I feel as though the US has further empowered China with the Huawei ban as now the Chinese OEMs will all be looking inward to find ways around any sort of ban. I hear that Meizu is now making a deal with Huawei to use their HMS Core in case they also get banned by the USA. I would not be surprised if OPPO, XIAOMI, OnePlus and Vivo do the same thing. |

I recently purchased a Huawei phone in the Uk so clearly our Government dont have an issue with their consumer products, even if we are in the process of gradually removing them from our network infrastructure.

Exact the same thing happening here in South Africa. I see some of our fiber internet providers have stopped using Huawei routers and replaced them with Nokia ones, but others are still using Huawei routers and Huawei phones are still sold here with the Mate 40 Pro becoming available right now hence I got it for review. I also still have the P40 Pro and P40 Lite and I see there is still people buying these phones in sizable numbers. |

Yes over here they are dealing with Ericsson and Nokia. The only Huawei phone not available here is probably the Mate 40 Pro Plus. but maybe that wasn't targeted for Europe anyway? Iam sure you know more about that side than me. the camera system on the Plus model has a marginally higher DXO mark score not a huge difference.

The Mate 40 Pro is not as widely available as other Huawei models in the Uk though, usually only at specialist phone dealers.

The only large mainstream phone company stocking the Mate 40 Pro here is the mobile operator EE, and even then it's only available in limited numbers. I assume EE must have got a good deal with Huawei. none of the other mobile operators in the uk have bothered with the Mate 40 Pro just stocking the P40 Pro instead. just an observation I have made and thats the same scenario with the large retailers too like Argos.
