What's up and coming? What's good at the moment? . I'm gonna stick with Android but what are the current top phones to consider? |

Still none the wiser, but it appears my 2.5yo Xiaomi Note 9 is finding new features, including an AI camera. I haven't played with it yet but I think it's updates like this slowing it down. My HTC U11 bath phone seems to be struggling too, with bugs like being booted when trying to post, keyboard failing to display and such. The note is immaculate so I might factory it first. The very latest/coolest phone isn't important but there are a handful of features I need. So I need to be clued-up before the black Friday and new year deals sell off this year's best options. |

Well, i've now lost my 3yo Xiaomi Note - so i went and bought a Blackview 9300. Anyone have any experience with Blackview phones? I mean it's an android, and setting it up has been just as expected. But it has some interesting spec. This includes a 15,000ah battery, porthole screen on the back (i've set mine as a chronograph watch), even the torch is a proper torch that lights up the house across the street. 24gb of ram is more than my laptop, the spec here goes hard. I'm finding some sense, like the fingerprint sensor being the power button, offset by things like a 32gb front selfie camera, not really needed as the rear screen allows for the main camera to be used for selfies. Okay, the two rear main cameras.., This all has an effect on the size of it - it's an absolute unit. It weighs half a kilo, it's gotta be nearly an inch thick, it fills the hand and my hands are big. For me this is fine, others might wanna consider if they prefer to slip something a little more compact on their person. |

Literally the first one I just looked up on Amazon is a 24gb model, so I don't know where you're looking... Seems to be a 9300 and 9300 Pro, so idk if only Pro have 24gb option or what. |

I can only find evidence of a 12, 8+8 and 12+12. There might be a single 8, too. Idk how it usually works, but this is an industrial piece of kit, it aint a pocket phone. In my coat pocket it drags my coat over my shoulder, i can't sit down with it in my jeans, it really cannot be thought of as a regular phone. This thing is a brick. Std memory is 256gb, i haven't yet expanded that as i don't see the point. It has some interesting stuff, but i'm so far behind that all this stuff is probably normal. Like the tool kit, which includes tape measure, spirit level, protractor/ plumb-bob, barometer... sound meter, which is handy for me.. Haven't yet found a scan thermometer, which would've been nice. |

It's the size and weight of a pint of beer. I really have had smaller and lighter socket sets. I think the sub 300 quid price is because they have such little market, some subsidy by investors, and are throwing the chips down and trying hard. We saw it with HTC, Xiaomi... Apple and Samsung can rake it in, whilst they have the wave, and invest. But the mighty can fall and they're no doubt building preparation. It could be said their customers are being taken advantage of, but then, they get so much in such a smaller and lighter package; their products are successful because they're what most people want (or are happy to be sold). Maybe it's like the Dodge Charger Hellcat being cheaper than an NSX. There are ebikes now that cost more than a Honda/etc sports motorcycle, the markets ain't simple. |
