Absolutely agree... Edinburgh is beautiful, def go there Peta, the folk are lovely, I made friends with people up there last year, total strangers went out of there way to help me through a horrendous time... but anyway u will be made very welcome n love the place

Where can I see sheep in meadows? I know it sounds storybook like but I saw an Airbnb adventure once that allows some sheep herding experience in Scotland. Too bad then I didn't take it into consideration. Might be a nice off the grid activity to do.

There are sheep in meadows everywhere. Well, everywhere except London. Which isn't a pretty place.

20 miles north of London and you have beautiful villages and countryside everywhere, lots of different animals in fields all around, quaint historical buildings and culture, but you're pretty stuffed if you rely on public transport.

That said, catching a train on a countryside line just for the window view will give you a far better hour or three than any amount of underground hopping.

One example is the line from Marylebone in London to Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire; that's the Chiltern line. Quick stop off at places like Amersham and Wendover won't take long, but will be refreshing and far more 'England' than the usual London landmarks.

There may be better lines but I know that one because I used it to get to school in the '80s (Aylesbury - Wendover).

Haha.. yea, I got back a week and a half ago.

But I'm mainly in London next month for an event- so figured I'd have my own fun as well.

Hmm, no idea, but I wanna go so badly again.

Also have a friend from Sydney coming over in August for two whole weeks! so I'm sure I'm gonna get a flood of persuasion to go back sooner than later. Lol.

As you know, I'm all about the East Coast, like most East Coast people but you gotta get over Western Australia when you come next, it's amazing! Margaret River, Rottnest Island and Perth and surrounds, loved it!

You could stop off in (ye olde)York on your way up to Edinburgh. Most of the trains from London up to Scotland will stop off at York station anyways.
