I think the best man has duties beyond making sure the bride is happy and pretty, is that what a bridesmaid does? The best man has the speech and some other stuff, if weddings in other countries are similar to irish weddings that is. I get to sleep with a bridesmaid? Sweet! Do i get to choose?

I think it's pretty similar. You're pretty much his personal assistant for a day.

Yes, i was best man. It was in the late 90s when i was a pot head, i wasn't particularly good at it. I was a good mate for the groom but i didn't really help otherwise, and i hadn't put enough thought into the speech. Still, whilst all i have is hindsight, i can give advice - research. Find out what the job really entails, speak to those you'll be working with, take it a bit more seriously than i did and get involved. Don't be daunted, you don't have to do much but it's nice to offer. And the speech will be easier then. Keep that short, btw. Half of it will be thanks, a light hearted coverage of the groom as a personality, best wishes, etc. |
