The rollout of Universal Credit seems to be a disaster for many people. Set to affect 7 million people this conglomerate of six benefits rolled into one is set to hit many working people. |

It seems if you are working and earning less than the minimum wage for 35 hours work then under UC you will need to attend the jobcentre and be trained on how to look for more work.

How about being trained on how to convince your boss to stop breaking the law?

Now imagine you are working 34 hours and the Job centre want you in at say 2pm Monday.. but you are working! Don't turn up and you will be sanctioned. Do you think the boss will let you go the Job centre for a couple of hours a week..or maybe every two weeks?

Probably, if you're reading it with an agenda.

No agenda here Mikey.

So I can't find the link. However what do you feel about folk who work 34 hours a week and receive one of the six benefits having to attend a Jobcentre to look for more work? Don't attend and you get sanctioned. Fair enough?

@ crabit.1 - 8.11.17 - 08:18pm How does somebody on 35 hours a week even on minimum wage need any input from a job centre? ![]() They need to look for more work apparently..i think if you are working 35 hours a week you are okay..any less and claiming some benefits..inckuding housing benefit them you need to attend..to learn how to find more work. |

Under UC workers on low incomes will be made to look for extra hours as a condition for receiving the benefit. If they are earning less than the equivalent of the minimum wage at 35 hours a week they will be placed in one of the Labour market regimes,otherwise termed a work related activity group or conditiinality group. Claimants will be incentivused to secure more work by attending regular work focused interviews. |

I remember chatting to a colleague in the 90s about hours, and she said she only did 16hrs because after that she pays tax and it affects her benefits. Why should I prop-up people who don't wanna work full time? |

Yep scrap zero hours.

@3mel | 8 November 17 |
so a condition of receiving the benefit is that you're trying to make yourself not qualified to receive it...

@ mikeymk - 8.11.17 - 08:31pm Seems fair. I remember chatting to a colleague in the 90s about hours, and she said she only did 16hrs because after that she pays tax and it affects her benefits. Why should I prop-up people who don't wanna work full time? So..people who are working and claiming housing benefit should be put at risk of homelessness if some jobsworth says you haven't looked hard enough for work? What if your boss doesn't give you the time off to go to the jobcentre? |
||

@mikeymk | 8 November 17 |
Why do you need time off if you're doing less than 35hrs?

I reckon many bosses will just say I've got to let you go mate..cant be giving you time off to go the jobcentre every week.

@ 3mel - 8.11.17 - 08:32pm so a condition of receiving the benefit is that you're trying to make yourself not qualified to receive it... That's nothing new. |

@ mikeymk - 8.11.17 - 08:36pm Why do you need time off if you're doing less than 35hrs? The jobcentre decide when they want to see you. They ain't going to..and won't be able to..accomodate interviews every week around when you aren't working. Seven million people set to be affected...logistics Michael... |
