What smart scams have you fell victim to in your lifetime? Today, ![]() Sounded so legitimate. The lady knew everything. I had to just answer yes, or no (and my email address). Waited 3 hours in line to see a consultant at my bank and phoned the anti-fraud helpline, giving them the telephone number I almost fell victim to. Moral of story: do everything in person whenever. |

Also, many years back (about a decade) I got sort of scammed by some Ghanaian who was looking to recruit people to work as a fish packager in Alaska. Sent all my documents. Realised later it was going nowhere. That's ![]() |

This was such a trap. But there's no legal basis for receiving debit orders from yes, or no answers to questions. No paper work, no bank clearance, right? |

I'm pretty sure if it was 10 years ago if there had been any major crimes committed in your name, then you would of had a visit by the cops by now. I would be more concerned with the financial side. He could of ran up Hugh debuts on credit cards etc |

I was half teasing there, but everything done via identity theft is criminal. if his credit rating is utter shiite this could be related.

I had a letter off a firm of baliffs about 6 months ago saying I owed 3000 quid from a few years ago and it listed an address I'd never heard of as my residence at the time Someone must have stolen my identity. I phoned the bailiffs up and told em I'd never heard of that address and they said OK no problem. Never heard anything more |

Apparently, after a telephone call, I've had a subpoena served against me. ![]() The nice lady's at the local Chinese restaurants sound way more English than the obviously Chinese lady on the phone, who, claimed to be calling from HMRC in London. After letting her try to get me worried, for about 45 minutes and my offering to pay. She rudely put the phone down upon me, falsely, stating my employer was London Met. ![]() |

I'm really worried that some stranger knows my number, for start, as well as my ID nr and home address (and claims to know my bank account details). There must be some compromise on the bank security and data bases. Looks like I can approve or reject debit orders, and so can let this slide. I don't even know ![]() |

if one of your neighbours ever got one of your letters thru their door they might have enough info to register their car in your name. did you ever tell a neighbour it was your birthday and they then asked how old you were ? |

yeah I've had people I shared a house with try to take out a credit card in my name, I'd gotten one of those junk mail credit card letters that said I'd been pre-approved. they got my DOB completely wrong and screwed up my credit rating. |
