Do you concur with views that certain ancient works of scripture display insightful anticipation of scientific knowledge centuries before secular science discovered them? Do you agree that while the writers of holy books lived in environments with flawed ideas about the universe and the world they miraculously conveyed scientifically accurate ideas about these things in their books? |

Cosmology, anatomy, hydrology, ocean science, biology, genetics, astronomy, geography et cetera.. many claim their books relayed amazing knowledge about these centuries before the world discovered them. Eg how a baby forms, the rain cycle, the shape of the earth, structure of the cosmos, the suspension of earth in space, the expansion of the universe, extra-terrestrial life et cetera.

If its true we'd have a strong reason to consider the books as much more than human works. What d'you think?

The web is teeming with apologetic discussions about this subject but a few caught my eye. Check these three out www.scienceinquran.com www.bibleevidences.com/scientif.htm www.miraclesofthequran.com/scientific_index.html

Some funny cases in mythology.. The Welsh epic the Mabinogian (?) describes a box used to keep a baby alive (humidicrib type contraption?)

Someone mentioned the Mahabarata the other day.. Really the ultimate source for descriptions of nuclear warfare in ancient times (elephants running around on fire and birds falling out of the sky, rivers boiling etc) and Vimanas. I would urge you to look into it.. It merges with our age. Oppenheimer quoted the Mahabarata at the first A bomb test.

It's clear cut descriptions, not like the gobbleddygook mushroom induced fantasies you would find in revelations about triple headed walruses emerging from the ocean.

All those precious informations bout every field wich u wrote about, were taught to our ancestors by some wiser and more evoluted civilization. Then those people who wrote the sacred books , ended up considering them gods and making up religions, with comandments to give them a guideline to follow for a better life. how can i blame them for adoring those guys as divinities :). Well this is my theory and i believe the most likely to be the real truth behind everything.

''Eg how a baby forms'' ... Observable in the case of miscarriages. And what is written in the koran about embryology is wrong....''the rain cycle''.... Easily observable....''the shape of the earth''...observable and was mathmatics that showed the earth to be round....''structure of the cosmos''....Dont know about that one....''the suspension of earth in space''...In the bible it also states the earth sits on its foundations and can never be moved....

''the expansion of the universe''....Describes the universe as spreading out like a canopy not an expanding universe....''extra-terrestrial life''.... We in the 21st century are not the only ones to expect more life out there, not that any has been found and in finding E.T would render most holy books obsolete.

Its amazing what we can deduce from texts. I've heard some preachers also propose that chemical warfare was intimated. Although its not a straightforward text, it can reasonably be construed to apply to chemical weapons. Here's the bible verse in question:

''And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.'' Zech 14:12 chemical weapons?? ![]() |

''We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.'' J. Robert Oppenheimer. Pretty arbitrary

Its equally possible. But that's the hurdle of taking this approach. If there's more than one possibility its vague.

''And it is We who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.'' (The Qur'an, 51:47) expansion of the universe revealed? Some translation issues have been raised criticising the ''expansion'' but I dont know much about the quran.
