hey guys, i believe that religion is a tool, a way of life to develop ourselves internally, to become better ppl, more understanding respectful and patient, religion/spirituality as a tool can help benefit the lives of others...how? I dont believe preaching or arguing brings about much change but if we live our faith, develop internally we set a better example 4 others, this helps ppl..... |

if we stop looking at others and look inwardly we start to c our own faults and then and only then can we start to remove them, as a bonus we can more easily relate with others as we start to c that we all haue faults, this builds a common ground which can be used to help rather than destroy, in my eyes this is what the world needs! Ur thoughts plz.

Logical and reasonable. Now for us all to implement it... That would be something!

ok ill add some spice, no cydr1 im a buddhist, but its just a name the important thing is what lucreta said which is to instigate these thoughts, if we can then, who knows what type of reaction we get, just as a small pebble can make many ripples, dont under estimate how powerful our actions can be, especially if its not words.

i also think we spent to much time building walls around us with our names im 'this' or 'that' instead of just being it, that whats important with faith not the name or concept but the personal growth that can happen then we are living as our teacher or god may want us too, give up the name and live the path we follow, we all humans and have the same colour blood.

no kimon faith isnt the cause of war men are, and as drakess9 paid man choose to fight or love, bottom line any faith that can enrich and better ppl lives is great by me, some dont need a faith and thats also fine, but we all have our beliefs, views and ideas. Drakess9 that sounds like a great idea, can u share those 12 steps, maybe others can find something benefital with some of them.

kimon men fight and argue and use the name of religion/faith but that isnt faith thats the idea of others and just the name, religion isnt external its internal, any thought(dont care what faith) that can help me grow is tops by me, im buddhist but it doesnt mean i cant learn and grow from other faiths and ideas, its like having glasses covering half ur eyes, we miss out on seeing so much more.

Well said pw. 1 thing i should say here is: religion is not only internal but external also. preliminarily its internal then external.

@mtness | 7 February 08 |
ok ripon i can agree with that, my point was more to do with ppl saying or doing this or that in the name of religion but missing the point of why we are religious, like its easy to tell some1 u love them, but its meaningless if it doesnt come 4rm inside. The external acts should be i confermation of our inner development otherwise theres little point to it.

I suppose it depends on what religion you follow. All I know is that the prophets preached, Repent lest you be sent to Hades.

I don't know whether Buddhists believe in an absolute truth. What is an absolute truth? That means that, two opposing ideologies cannot equally be true. For example. If there is no God, then all religious people are nutters wasting their lives. But if there is a God. We go to the next question. What does God want? Absolute Truth.

Can God be Zeus, Jupiter, Ra, Thor, Seth, Aphrodite at the same time? If your religion is not based on an absolute truth. Then you are worshipping a god of your own creation.

If you follow a religion, not because of God, but for self-development. Then I recommend you go through Anthony Robins life management courses and forget all these crazy religious things.

To close. If there is an absolute truth. Then we worship a God who is a creator. But if there is no absolute truth, then we worship gods of our own creation-which is crazy. Rather worship something that exists, like a president or a CEO of a company.
