You can use Synaptic package manager to install a programm. Then find it in the installed applications

Ooh, sorry I misunderstood. Download iso file of ubuntu release you want to install. Write this file to cd. Burn cd on lower speed you can. Boot pc from cd and install

First of all you must install additional drivers and updates. use UPDATE MANAGER to install updates (main menuadministrationupdate manager). Perhaps you need install third party software for some codecs and plugins. Then try to learn linux commands
