Defragging your ssd will toast it.

Obviously its necessary to defrag storage drives to minimise the data access time and read/write head stress....

It's true you need to with a hdd. Not with ssd.

depends on the drive and what i use it for. if its just storage then theres little need to as windows preallocates the files to minimize the chances of fragmentation. if your constantly replacing stuff then like any drive it will need defragging sooner or later.

Cheers Jay they have been in use since April and never defragged, on the 1 f3 I have Music and Video with only 132gb free out of 1tb, the other f3 is for storing pictures and backing up my drivers and software, would u recconend them a defrag, can a defrag corrupt files loose data ?

i defrag the system drive only when i feel the performance drop, don't see any benefit in trashing my hard drive every few days.. as for the storage drive,i use defraggler and defrag files individually, its fast and it works. and even so,i rarely need to do that,i don't really need my movies, images, audio and nonsystem programs init faster,i haven't defragged for a half an year and everything is still acceptably fast. so thats my advice. go for defraggler and defrag when you feel the performance

the performance loss. as for should ssd need formatting,i don't know a lot about the topic. though defraging is just moving bits of data i don't see how can it damage anything and if can then i don't see ssd as reliable storage option. but as i said,i don't know a lot on the topic

why defrag a flash drive? So what if the files are fragmended. What performance decrease are you going to get from something we use to transport files with?

It is possible to defrag active files depending on the program you are using and how large the file is . But it will slow down your pc unless you have a lot of ram and a few cores to spare .
