Finally a cpu upgrade on the consumer level. The new i3-s are basically last generation i5-s so a mayor value in them. The z370 chipset is a bit of a letdown but still a decent upgrade on the cpu part. Finally ordered a 8700k a replacement worthy for my i7 3770k. The 3770k ran for 5 years without any problems on 4.4-4.5ghz and continues so as a second pc. looking forward to run some good overclocks on that new chip if i get a good silicone. Who else is seeing this as a good upgrade? We can all thank amd for pushing intel to this. |

The lack of pcie lanes will not affect me as i run 1 gpu and a m.2 ssd. Would be a problem with multiple gpu-s and add in cards tho for many ppl. It has x16 for pcie and up to 24 thru the chipset for the m.2 etc.

I was looking at going coffelake but the jump isnt that large over my 4790k for gaming so going to wait for icelake . You was very lucky to get the cpu as the biggest seller here in the uk only got 8 cpu's . It was a rushed release due to ryzen and intel did not make enough of them .

Intel really fu*ked up with the fast release of both platforms . The HEDT platform is a complete mess and threadripper is a thousand pounds cheaper and matches it and z370 is a dead platform from the go . Ryzen has really kicked them into touch and they will sh*t bricks if ryzen 2 matches their IPC ,yeah intel single thread is way ahead but that will change with the revisions in january

The core usage in games is still very little thats why i went for a 6 core. Rumors are intel will drop a 8 core in 9 months. I think 6 cores is good for many years to come seeing how slow games are taking on extra cores. The 8700k has a very high single core performance compared to others thankfully. Its funny the 7700k costs 350 euros here and my 8700k was 380euros so it was a easy choice. Only one store here has the 8700k in right now and has 2 more left after i sn*tched mine as they were still ordering them.

@ norega - 13.10.17 - 12:26pm Really thinking about buying a threadripper system to upgrade my 5820k system Amd is a great workhorse now alot of value. I dont use it for much other than tweaking around and gaming so i would not benefit from more cores. Intel messed up with the thermal paste between the heatspreader and on the 2066 platform the cache amount is a joke. Atleast they gave the 8700k 12mb not 8.25mb lol. |

The Thermal paste on all intels cpu's is a joke . De lidding them is the way to go if you want to overclock .

Icelake is due around mid 2018 and will be 8 core but a complete new socket again .Z370 will be probrably the shortest lived platform intel have ever made . Great cpu though and if you do more than gaming its great as you get the best of both . Above 1080p though your old cpu would have been just as fast |

@ norega - 13.10.17 - 07:23pm Post some benchmarks when you get it up and running I wanna see some comparisons Will be running the bench on the h80i cooler first on my 3770k then install it on the 8700k. Will get a h100i v2 some time later. Ultimate goal is to run it at 5ghz daily. |

You will need a very good chip to reach 5ghz . 8pack over at overclockers said they are about 1 in a thousand thus the reason they are selling pre binned 5ghz chips for 700 pounds

Got the motherboard finally. Got it up and running. Doing some benchmarks on stock 4.3ghz turbo 3200mhz ram. Cinebench vs my overclocked 3770k got a jump from 787p to 1415p. The small aio h80i is not ideal but keeps it 72c in prime 95 all cores 4.3 turbo versus 4.4ghz 3770k 90c ![]() |
