Strange question. But what do you think is the best engine or engine system out there for a daily drive? For economy to n from work? Around the city? But also happy on a motorway cruise. Not for racing. Track day might be fun. But as a day to day drive? |

Nissan 1400 bakkie its lite and economical plus you can do business with it and park just about anywhere in town ie. loading zone, since its classified as a LDV...

Fuel injection is usually lighter on fuel than carb... But its costly to buy like the Velociti 1.4i or Yaris... Go for a Carb car its usually cheaper, and you get more or less the same fuel economy...

Ok. How about realistic ideas. Hydrogen is years away yet. Suppose i should've been more precise. Can you still buy carb driven? Thought almost everything was injected these days. My inclination is towards a vtec of some kind. Lower revs around town. With option to bounce of the limiter up to motorway speeds. Vtec. Vvti. Zetec etc. A puma zetec is tempting. Civic or crx. Or other options?

I built mine specifically for this purpose, but it had to be fun. It had to have lightening throttle response,so turbo diesel was out. It had to be economical aswell,so low-rpm power, high gearing, and multipoint fuelling was needed. And it had to be swift. Real swift. So it had to be in a light body - as light as a Lotus Elise, with as much power. So i came up with a long-stroke 1.6 petrol engine on motorbike carbs, and put it in an '80s shopping trolley. Torque2weight ratio higher than a Golf R32,

..Yet it'll do up to 60mpg. And its fun. But it'd not be much use in a MK4 Golf - the car would be near double the weight! There's more to it than just an engine, you need to get the whole package right. I have no ancillaries that sap power - no air con,no power steering, etc etc. Its a pick'n'mix. I chose speed, economy, and fun. And five seats. Cant get anything else in the bag.

Oh how i would love a last series rx7. But yeah. Rotary are very thirsty in petrol and oil. And your right about the package. Right engine in the right car.

Which then suggests what is the best generation of civic etc? Eg. Ek. Ep. Or latest. And whats affordable now. On a average guys salary. Lol. Ek lsi? Saloon. Coupe. I'm thinking eg or ek hatchback. Although i'd love the dashboard gearstick in the ep. Still too expensive for the fun versions.
