Emo originated in the mid-1980s hardc*re punk movement of Washington, D.C. where it was known as emotional hardc*re or Emoc0re. I think Emo is truly not known by people, and Everytime people say Emo. People think of Scene kids. It's a misguided Genre.

Trace the roots back far enough and you will find black metal came from jazz, not that the 2 should ever be compared. Like punk and emo. I like punk.

Thanks deathbed, that's the emo I'm referring to. Revolution summer DC emo as opposed to haircuts and fashion... Saying that, haircuts and fashion isn't the sort of punk I'm after either :)
