Beer is high in carbohydrates yet slows you down, so the fattening aspect is a simple science inevitable with a heavy beer-drinking lifestyle. Go easy, stay active, and it won't be an issue. I've always been very active but my beer drinking has not been very consistent over the years! I started off on lager-beers and didn't look beyond them for a good 10-15yrs, with Heineken, Carlsberg Export, Foster's Export and Stella Artois being my favourites. Once i found ales, i pretty much dropped them but for Stella at parties. I got into dark ales, porters and stouts. Rich but soft, malty ales were my favourite - firstly Old Ember in the mid '00s to Adnam's Broadside most recently. I wasn't so keen on blondes, IPAs or anything too hoppy. Belt-tightening several years ago took me to polski beers, where strong rich beer can be found in cans. Stuff like Okocim Mocha and Debowe knocks the socks off Stella for flavour, but isn't quite the strength of tramp beers (Tennants etc). But i just drank more of it.. At 7'/.+ these can still lead you down a dangerous path. So more recently i got into ales again, only weaker than ever. I would buy stuff like Tangle Foot, Hobgoblin, Fursty Ferret and Abbott in cans, sometimes Guinness. But moving down isn't the same as moving up, and by this year i just enjoyed my favourites on a 'few and far between' basis - like Leffe Brun, Badger Poacher's Choice, Mc Ewan's Champion, Asda Gentleman Jack, and Young's Double Chocolate. For now i've given up, i drank so little this year i've gone off beer. But i could be tempted to try some other suggestions - not German white beer though! One European beer i like, that is very underrated in England, is Super Bock. It's Portugese, and it's pretty much all i drank in Portugal and Spain. |

Its easier with liquid calories too. Im no expert as to whats in what, Or even many of the types. I know for sure I cant stsnd the taste of the dark malty ones tho. I can tolerate the fruity flowery ones when its beer drinking time. |
