Bahrami suffered wounds to her eyes, face, scalp and body in the horrific attack nearly seven years ago. Still visibly scarred, her decision to spare the man who had disfigured her was a surprise. It is best to pardon when you are in a position of power, Bahrami said. Movahedi thanked the woman, calling her very generous. I couldn't imagine being blinded by acid, Movahedi said tearfully.

Victims in Iran have the right to ask forstrict enforcement of Islamic law, whichallows for qisas, or eye-for-an-eyeretribution.

In the trial of Bahrami's attacker, the courtruling allowed the woman to have a doctorpour a few drops of acid in one ofMovahedi's eyes as retribution. In 2009, Bahrami said she was pleased withthe sentence.I am not doing this out of revenge, butrather so that the suffering I went throughis not repeated, she said.

If you have a gentle nature and something horrible like this happens to you, you are then put into a nasty situation of getting revenge, I'm sure this law is great for some victims but not for others. Nice topic

This does actually surprise me coming from Iran. They always have been more sensible on the whole rights for woman to be people than just birthing units thing. Sad day for the legitimacy of theocracy (but that came long ago)
