So by ''common'' definition, Buddhism is not a religion, but by ''common'' usage it is then? ![]() |

I am glad we got to a conclusion despite all the blabbering, Satanism itself is just as much of a religion as Buddhism or Jainism or a lot of branches of Hinduism.

@ vampboy - 18.03.15 - 03:49pm Okay, so based on 'wide' definition Buddhism is a religion, so is Satanism then, yes? by that definition, ANYTHING can be a religion |

@ nolisto1 - 18.03.15 - 03:36pm But I think we can all hear agree that while there are hundreds of real religions, there is only one TRUE religion. And that is Christianity. Was there ever any doubt. I hear that! |

A common definition isn't what you think it is, but it is how most people use it, and most people see both Buddhism and Jainism as a religion thus proving the fact that the ordinary usage of religion does not just extend to belief in God or Gods, but also to a system of faith. If this wasn't an ''ordinary'' definition too, then Buddhism wouldn't according to ''ordinary'' usage be considered a religion either.

It's a pity watching you religious folks fight and kill each other over who's religion is real or false, all an attempt to own God exclusively. |

@ xfrankie - 18.03.15 - 04:05pm whatever you say pal 'ordinary' or 'common' definition would automatically lead to 'ordinary' and 'common' usage too, if ordinarily the definition of religion only extended to belief in God, then the ordinary usage of religion would never extend to Buddhism or Jainism being called a religion. If most people perceive Buddhism to be a religion, therefore the ordinary usage is not only belief in God or Gods, but also belief in a faith system, under which Satanism falls under too. |

And most people ordinarily do not perceive sports to be a religion, but technically yes, sports and various other political ideologies like communism can be just as much of a religion as Christianity, which in short is religion is far more than just belief in theism in both wide and narrower sense.
