Ryan Gauld and John Souttar both being watched by the likes of Man City,United,Spurs to name a few. Gauld at 17 and Souttar just turned 17 on Wednesday have made Big waves since breaking into Dundee United's first team last season and have carried that into this season. The tannadice youth scheme is producing some quality players again, but I'm struggling to think when last any of the aforementioned English clubs last did so. Yes they have bought young players in, but who have they actually brought through themselves in the last decade? I'm sure I'll be proven wrong in here, so let the ripping begin ![]() |

Ryan Gauld is too lightweight at the minute and the clubs down south need top players now and cant afford to wait on the youth coming through the ranks

United have brought through Welbeck, Cleverley, Evans and Fletcher in recent years who are still at the club plus numerous others who've been sold on.

Most of the England team have been brought through in the past decade by English clubs, so have f*gregas and Pique. Everton have brought through 3 England |

Actually we've brought through 4. There's actually more than u think Baz. Sturridge has started the season off well and prob would of started for England, he came through at City, as did Micah Richards. United Welbeck, Pique, Evans. Spurs granted, I've said on he many times they are s**t at bringing kids through and they even ruin the kids that they buy

Januzaj is getting his chance now at 18 and looks to be virtually a fixture in the first team squad now. It depends on how you define them as academy products though as United buy them in young now paying training compensation.

@ njackets - 26.09.13 - 10:38pm Doesn't look like he's getting a chance to me. He trains full time with the first team squad, is in the match day squad and came on last night too early to be just a sub to wind the clock down. He started this year in the u18s so he has progressed. |

Wilshere has fantastic potential but I fear for him with the injuries. He has more than a whiff of Fabregas about him. Zaha, Oxlade, Butland, Shaw, McEachran, Sterling, Barkley, Powell etc etc theres potential for English players but who knows who will really fulfill it. Michael Owen was devastating at 21 and then ruined by 27

Crewe are still producing good kids, keep an eye on Max Clayton, he's got a lot of promise. I'd put him with Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw as three to watch out for - leaving aside United players that is.

I still say England has the talent but clubs fk them of early to bring foreign players in .examples of walker Baines jags lescott Walcott oxlade Chamberlain all played at lower league clubs and now playing for England .

Crewe have Dario Gradi to thank for their youth system so picking up one of their coaching staff is a smart move. They deliberately picked a team for a league match last season of all genuine Crewe academy products, it's a very well run club.

@ njackets - 27.09.13 - 12:37am We've got Crewes youth coach in recently This should mean Liverpool will definitely be in the running when Max Clayton does eventually move on. |

Other academies that produce a lot of PL players for other clubs are Leeds and Boro. That's based on numbers playing on one particular weekend last season.

The problem is young players show a bit of promise then get loads of money thrown at them.Where's the motivation when they get thousands a week in their bank accounts? They aren't mature enough to handle that sort of money, especially only training a few hours a day.
