Torrent sites are full of torrent links to pirated movies, music and programs that often come equipped with some type of trojan horse that spreads over the web like wildfire when that file is opened. So that's all the reason any goverment needs to shut a torrent link site down.

Only noobs get a virus from downloading warez. It all depends on where you get it from and what you do to check it doesn't contain a virus. All scene releases come with hash checks, so if someone modifies anything you will know.

*checks=md5/sha2 values. But you don't even need to bother checking if you have a good source.

Also, the only things the government are concerned about is lost sales tax and anti-piracy groups putting pressure on them, that's the reasons why sites are being taken down.

I doubt they will shut down all public torrent trackers, new ones pop up all the time, but if they did it would be great. It would mean all the noobs who know nothing about computers would have to start paying for their CD's, DVD's and software. Companies would have more money to create more intellectual property, and the tech savvy could still get everything for free.
