Courtesy of the USAF. I was out with the dog earlier and 3 F-17's were taking it in turns to perform dummy bombing runs on the old hangers at the former RAF Driffield site. Diving in at steep angles then pulling up hard and banking away on full afterburners. It was quite a spectacular and very noisey show, the vapour trails from the wing tips looked great against the clear blue sky. ![]() |

They disappeared at high speed, heading back to their base in Lincolnshire. All very top gun. Couldn't help think that the RAF would only have needed one run. Tally ho chaps, target destroyed and be home in time for tiffin, what! ![]() |

I've seen those shows on tv. Enthusiast go to see their fav planes up close, only to have a fighter jet land in their lap.

The yanks used to use the big tower on our old corn dryer for targetting before we demolished it. You could see it for miles around and the RAF nearly killed me but they did it in style so I forgave them. ![]() |

I almost had a heart attack one day when I was busy muck-spreading on the hill in field at the highest point on the farm. I just happened to glance out of the window to my left and EEEEK, a blooming great RAF Tornado coming straight at me not more than a hundred yards away! I dunno how close he passed over me but I bet it was under the allowed limit by some margin.

He had obviously used me as a target and I would have been furious but for the fact he wiggled his wing tips by way of an apology as he sped off! I had to laugh, the cheeky bug*er! ![]() |

At Leconfield where you dodgey? They still use driff airfield as an off road training course. I got taken around the course once when I was working at the grain stores in the old hangers there. ![]() |

I remember pitched battles on the streets of driffield, between locals and squaddies on a saturday night, lol. That was before they closed RAF Driffield and when I was in short trousers. The army lads all go to Bev now, I don't think they're allowed to go drinking in Driff anymore, ![]() |

Those 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' guys are brilliant. They've flown over here on their way to shows. What a sight, what a noise! ![]() |
