coheed and cambria are classed as prog (better than the cr*ppy emo label they get stamped with at times) this is the best band ever..prog or not CoCa will take over the planet.

Ok cool, I used to love prog back in the day, and I LOVE the Mars Volta and Tool (although I'm not sure I'd call Tool 'prog'). But I've heard a good few people say 'if you like prog rock, check out Spocks Beard'... DO NOT DO SO if you value your sanity.. they make Boyzone look edgy, and sound like Mile and the Mechanics covering Toto.. utterly horrible.

Lmao thanks for that warning ive also been told to check spocks beard out and nearly did a few times..since there are few prog bands around. i guess tool, like anathema in the early days can be classed as prog metal.. Mars volta are amazing i agree

I'm not saying this to annoy you mate (bearing in mind your username) but I prefer the 'Seconds Out' version of Supper's Ready... there, I've said it. I feel kinda dirty now ![]() |

i think its a shame Van der Graaf Generator aren't mentioned more often in terms of great prog rock . . .

I've seen them live more times than I'd care to remember.. I saw them do The Lamb at Wembley too .. on the previous point - yay, definitely more Van der Graaf Generator: Peter Hammil's still doing stuff.. but my favourite band from that period has to be Camel. Snow Goose was my all-time favourite album, until I discovered Boards of Canada...

Definitely - but nothing compares to seeing Fish towering over you in full combat regalia roaring 'FORGOTTEN SONS!' in your face from a few feet away.. ![]() |

Oh yeah forgot marillion they awesome!and also porcupine tree-wow

@lusephur | 6 September 06 |
Porcupine tree while they have had such an influence on the current prog scene, steve wilson hates the prog label he's more influenced by acid rock, nick drake and scandanavian black metal. And to the person who called Anathema prog, no no no they're not nor ever were and i'm a big fan of them. Best prog band at the moment would be a tie between Pain Of Salvation, Carp Tree, or The Flower Kings

@garion | 6 September 06 |
@playfan - see my Spocks Beard comment on the first page: they are a witless, horrible, MOR, anodyne experience that made me want to chew my ears off inside 5 minutes.. only a personal opinion of course.. ![]() |

Re, genesis marillion live..bein born in 75 is a bit irksome having never had chance to watch either band in their pomp..ive got a marillion dvd circa 82 and fish was certainly an impressive frontman, very genesis influenced their early stuff. Is misplaced childhood worth getting? Wasnt sure if theyd gone pop by then. re camel, never heard them but a mate is a fan will check them out.
