they're different....this makes a big difference.There style is new in that they've managed to explore and mix other music genres perfectly.

Tbh, they aren't doing anything new. Graceland and Remain in Light did rock meets afrobeat long ago. I'd much prefer a bit of Fela Kuti. And I'm not sure about the Yeasayer reference. While it is MUCH better than VW, they don't really have much afrobeat influence. I hear lots of Middle Eastern sounds and, strangely, Black Sabbath.
