But oakey hasn't done so much over the last few years, so can't really be voted top dj of the year. There's loads of other djs more deserving - above and beyond, giuseppe ottaviani, john o'callaghan, claudia cazacu, etc. As I said before, using more techniques like adding live parts to mixes is the way forward. And using software to mix isn't a bad thing, it gives you more flexability to do more

With your set, not just mixing from tune to tune. I can dj using vinyl, but prefer using ableton as I can do a lot more, plus I can carry more tunes on my laptop than I'd ever get in a record box!

Oakey has been touring with Madonna this year, aswel as remixing big popstars, doing the music for big holywood blockbusters and holding down a resedancy at the main club in Las Vegas! Not exactly quiet!

That doesn't mean he's a top rate dj still tho. Most people who voted will be serious clubbers, they're not going to be bothered about a few pop remixes or touring with madonna. I know that has no appeal to me or my metes

I'd have to disagree with the point that most voters are serious clubbers. IMO, most are NOT serious clubbers, just plastic imitations. If serious clubbers formed the majority of voters, the top 10 would look vastly different

absolutely spot on 3rdrail, what about super8 and tab winning on production alone? sander van doorn for his multi-talent as a producer over 3 different dj names and his choice of tunage? marco v,oceanlab etc etc but ohhhhhh no lets take the safer option and go armin, i reckon its a fkin fix

Ok, I take that back. But most people will still be interested in the current big names, and people associated with tunes they're hearing this last year. I'm not bothered about the charts anyway, I look for new and great sounding tunes from allsorts of producers/djs to dj and play on my show. Tune in on christmas eve for my highlights of the year.

Kraftwerk didn't exist in the 1960s. They formed in 1970. As for roots and origins, 'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer is generally considered to be the first techno tune.
