2112 is essential (if you don't have it already), I'd also heartily recommend (for starters) Exit Stage Left, Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves, but you can't go far wrong with any of their stuff prior to around 1990 - it's still good, but patchier afterwards.

caress of steel + fly by night are great, the earlier the better is my opinion

On a side note - EVERY time I've gone out in my excellent 'Fly By Night' T-shirt (referred to elsewhere in this forum,), complete strangers have approached me and asked where I got it, and that's led on to mutual exchanges about how great Rush are, when you last saw them live etc. and I mean EVERY time.. I'm almost wary of putting it on, as I know I'll see people edging towards me in HMV.. :)

Thanks anduan poor photo by me though :( @kurt_x - yeah, Moving Pictures is a really well BALANCED album, the tracks aren't excessively long and introspective, nor too punchy and overtly 'poppy'. For a band that always have great production values it's a particular high point too, with a really crisp, tight sound.

and i love the b side of caress of steelbecause it is long and introspective. The fountains of lamneth IS a 20 min journey into the universe of prog, not as commercial as elp, and more honest rock than YES,if u know what i mean,not as highbrow

Ah Rush are fantastic,great comments here too...I also like their more hard rock/progressive style of the 70s/early 80s...Favourite album for me is probably either A Farewell to Kings (Xanadu is my ultimate Rush tune) or Permanent Waves though I actually am one of relatively few people who really enjoy Vapour Trails from 2002

dont buy an album after Signals ..this record was the bands death knell..they were complete cack after this
