Why not favorite composers instead of artists? Anyway my favorite artists are (including conductors): Wilhelm Kempff, Alfred Brendel, Earl Wild, Valery Gergiev, Wiltod Rowicki, Banard Haitink.

Shostakovich is dreadful. Most modern classical is either overbearing melodrama or coma inducing minimalism. It doesn't interest me in the slightest.

 Shostakovich? dreadful? Have u actually ever listened to Shostakovich? His symphonies? his string quartets? Among the best u could ever hear. Go listen ur ancient cr*ppy instruments (continuo, harpsichord etc...) and stop talking cr*p about the last greastest symphonist of the 20th century.
