He's drawing that violin bow across the strings, not because it's EXPECTED but because he IS Page.. this is a PROPER rock band, not just some guys going through the numbers for cash. There's little difference in skill or commitment between this and the mid-seventies.. awesome.

As regulars may be aware, I  the band Genesis and I've got the dvd of their reunion and absolutely ADORE it, but it's the guys playing their best songs extremely competently (which is great), but Zep last night had the priapic sexual intensity of a young, hungry band who are looking to get laid post-gig.. that performance should earn them an entirely new generation of devoted fans.

COMPETITION IS A WONDERFUL THING.. having watched this again on dvd, I've noticed that at first Page seems to be almost phoning in his performance, like it was a quick number for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductance, but then the realisation that Perce is going for his original ball-crushing screams (something Plant himself said he wasn't really up to anymore) seems to dawn, and his playing becomes more and more frenetic until it attains a demonic intensity suggesting that not only

has he sold his soul to the Devil, but the contract's up, and Lucifer's in full possession.. behind this, Jason is being a complete HERO, and the very essence of his dad, and JP is doing what JP's always done so magnificently. My primary emotion watching this is DISBELIEF - these bus pass-wielding seniors are not just as good as they were at their peak, they're actually slightly BETTER.. Completely surreal, but the best MUSIC dvd I've ever seen - get it.

d*mned jobsworth, they should give him the sa.. no garion, don't go there..  . There's ALWAYS timing issues on Dazed and Confused, it's in the nature of the beast, even the iconic Madison Square Garden gig had them, and ultimately I prefer raw honesty and intensity more than overdubbed perfection.
