I liked it, Metallica is many things to many people and have the worst fans by extension.

Its a strange one, there are some good tunes but there is a lot of filler and meandering songs that go on WAY too long. The production is just utterly awful, check out the ep they released afterward called Beyond Magnetic I think, there are a few tunes on there which should definetly have made the cut for the album.

Picked this album on my birthday in 2008 fking good album, those who dont like it probably not a metallica fan at all. Suicide and Redemption, Broken Beat Scarred and The End Of The Line are my favourite tracks in there.

agreed on the awful production quality, they recorded it at too loud a volume and the instruments sound totally unlike how they should because of it, like there's some kind of fuzzy crackling effect the louder you play it at

It's a good comeback for them and an ok album - I rather enjoyed it when I'd just got it but I got tired of it eventually (much sooner than their early stuff, which I'm more likely to listen to now, again)

I think it's a genuine attempt to sound like a metal band, not some kinda Hollywood-endorsed, Grammy award-winning production fest. For those that don't like the sound: it's probably best to avoid going to see live bands, 'cos it gets kinda DIRTY sometimes..

still good live id expect huh lol i gave up on them after dismal non thrash 96 gig in london but luckilly corrosion in support blew em away with wiseblood

dissapointing 91 gig at wembley minus support where u had video of mainly Larz ego making a pratt of himself,hm both euro 90 at wembley nd donington monsters of rock 91 they produced then two stunners

i was fortunate to had court them in 90 at marquee secret gig as they played as vertigo in support of metal church ..blinding ..i will always remember that may 11th

ironically on the half a dozen times iv caught megadeth theyv produced blinding gigs that iv well enjoyed ..it seems with metallica half are cr*p nd half are v.good

I have no doubt that this was the intention. And its probably the reason so many fans were quick to embrace it myself included, after years of mediocre releases it was like they had gone back to their roots. And its not a terrible album as I said BUT its not an album I ever really go back too, because its not great, the production is frustrating, I love that dirty, raw under produced sound, but in my opinion albums that sound like that should be short, aggressive affairs, on albums where every s

ong approaches ten minutes it grates after a while, also there are far too many tracks which meander with no purpose and would of benefitted greatly from being trimmed down
