With the rise of I Tunes and Onlne stores such as Amazon and all the illegal downloads etc the music shop has become an endangered species. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Its certainly cheaper now, CD's at stores like HMV have been over priced for years. But is having a digital download as good as having the physical vinyl or CD? Thoughts? |

Personaly I hate it, I used to love going shopping for music, browsing the CD's and taking a punt on some band I'd never heard of before. Doing the same online is nowhere near as gratifying. And ultimately for me, just having the Download isnt enough, I want to have the physical CD or Vinyl not just a download on my Ipod

I get the real cds too. I miss shopping for cds that way too, but in a way it is the industries fault. It can also be looked at as a positive.

Don't think it's 'bad' or 'good', just what comes with the evolution towards a paperless society. Just like how newspapers dying out and people are moving to online articles and news apps, but there will always be people that prefer a hard copy. It has its place but is becoming an old means of distributing music. Not to mention that the CD itself is becoming obsolete. A few weeks ago Sony and Panasonic teamed up to develop a next-gen optical disc standard. Might be interesting to see what the result will be.
