ok, i am trying some experimental tunes of a dubstep (ish) variety, ok i know technically there is no such thing as a dubstep (ish) variety cause dubstep seems to be a universal thing heard in all genres except classical... Although I am sure there are dubstep mixes of classical tunes... That said, I will be posting links to a few tracks I have thrown together to try get some feedback on if what I think is working is actually working or not... |

Dubstep Two This one was pretty much where I think it started getting good... Using one wobble sample, with lots of portamento and a reggae loop you will see I almost always use... Always sounds great when you smoking some cronic! |

Dubstep Three This one got a different feel to it, same wobble sample, working the portamento once again... |

DubStep Four Ok, I found another dubstep sample, sounds terrible to be honest, but I looped about 30 milliseconds of it n with the right portamento n volume fiddling mananged to get a woof woof effect, so I was well chuffed... |

Dubstep Five Ok, here I used a few little background loops, along with my loved wobble loop, n added some high tempo in the middle for extra effect cause I was loving it so much at that point I just had to get my jam in in my room quick, lols... |

Dubstep Eight Ok, well on this one I decided to start out with the sign wave, n went for a semi chip tune kinda approach, ode to the past... You'll see them chip styles pop in for the chorus, lol... |

First off, I'm not too much of a dubstep fan or much of a producer but I thought I'd chip in for some constructive (or destructive?) criticism. The stuff you produced sounds very bare, doesn't have much depth. There isn't enough progression. Dubstep Two could have been shortened to at least half its length because of how repetitive it is. Dubstep Three sounds like you tried to create some sort of DnB/Dubstep hybrid but it doesn't work well IMO. That pad you used is clashing with your wobble sounds. If I may offer some advice I'd suggest you use more VSTs to create ambience effects (but less prominent than pads) and make use of automation clips of plucks and cutoffs to create more progression rather than just throwing your wobble out there (or is that the effect you were going for?) In any case keep practicing and try to get some remix stems and more presets for your VSTs. Edit: I see you posted another 5 songs - don't have the time or patience |

Ok, still need to export 10 onwards, but here's another couple... Instrumental Reggae Dubstep Ok, this one I used a few dubstep samples, or well pretty much every sample I had to get the dubstep track, n a few background pads, regular wobble for most of the track... |

wtf, it cut out my reply... ok, well, i will try out vst pluggins, but i'm using modplug tracker which is oldschool style music program, more suited to making chip tunes, but great fun for working with noises n stuff in general... An example of a tune made using 1 sample... a bassdrum... Minimize That Ish |
