it is seriously exploitative, but if I asked the current employees how many hours they averaged, and they all said 40, I'd take the job. the way I see it, I work for me not my employer.

I hope there will soon be a test case where it's proven that that zero hours contracts are ok as long as the employer has the expectation of zero hours of guaranteed availability from the employee. a few painful tribunals later it would end for good..

If you're living at home or maybe even a student then fine, you could pull it off. But say you're on benefits and say your youngest just turned 5, you're expected to take zero hour contracts or you're sanctioned, just like that
