I gather it would be illegal for a hotel or a bed and breakfast place to refuse a room to someone based on genderor race? |

A lady called Kathryn Blakely has raised 600 pounds to help her homeless friend Simon get hotel or B+B accomodation over Xmas. However every place she calls either refuses or slams the phone down. Is this fair?

Simon has no addictions,he just fell on hard times. I wonder if she could use the money as a down payment on some permanent accomodation...or put it towards that?

Fair enough Simon looks rough..big beard etc..but he could take a bath,have a shave etc at any accepting hotel. How sad. Maybe they assume he will put off other guests?

im sure a charity like hope or shelter, would help? they can get you onto landlords that need little or no deposit for accomodation

It's heartless. He's already down and out and now this happens  it just breaks my heart. People like him sometimes just need a helping hand, not to be pushed down further. That's why some people stay the way they are because nobody is willing to give them a chance. A small act of kindness can change somebody's life.

why do they need to know anything about him ? just make the booking 'for a friend' on your card. I don't tell people my living arrangements when booking accommodation. Get the brownie points from facebook after the fact, not from the guy on the phone. |

This, plus I don't get this accomodation in a b+b thing you guys have mentioned a more than a few times here, a bed and breakfast is a place for people taking a holiday etc, it might not be luxurious but it's certainly not a place to house the homeless as it is still very costly |
