Admittedly it's a good pint, Hook Norton 12 days...and it's a lovely pub, with loads of history...it's claimed that Oliver Cromwell stayed here and planned the 1st battle of the civil war, edgehill...but is all that crap worth a big price hike?... Nice beer but I'll nip to wetherspoons next, where a similar, maybe slightly inferior real ale can be consumed at a price of 1.89 a pint... |

You would be appalled at the price of a decent beer over here, at least for the stuff that you don't want to soak your feet in.

It's still a tenner for a three-pint session, in my local. I remember when it was under two pound a pint, but the price is small change compared to the atmosphere - that was back when the pub was the place to be. Packed and alive. Now, those days are gone. Pub culture is wrecked, here.

@ sensible - 12.12.15 - 05:53pm Wouldn't pay it, I'm tight. ![]() I make my choice before I go somewhere, i'm not gonna let prices spoil my time so I decide to accept them or not beforehand. But the industry is killing itself too. Tax may be the main thing but the breweries are hard on landlords. The pool table is still a pound. It was a pound in the 90s! Way I see it, pubs could get popular again once smoking is unwelcome by the vast majority. But I think the breweries are just milking it for all they see left in it. The government are mostly to blame though. If they halted the tax on beer sold in pubs, the pubs would sell double, the government would rake in the same tax. |

I understand maybe for a boutique drop in a boutique bar, of which there has been many spring up lately around here, or a niteclub like whatever the fk they call fanny's here now, but not the places I've been to anytime recently or worked in. Pints, pots, schooners, middies. I can price them all. |

I don't particularly mind paying between 3.50 and 6.00 for a pint, if the place isn't an utter shithole. But the places I've passed by without going in, are just filled with chavs and imbeciles. Hobgoblin, in Bath is one of the nicest little pubs I've visited many times... Although the pump ale is usually somewhat flat, but it's worth any price for the flat ale because it's a dingy little pub, plus the jukebox is full of only rock and metal which keeps certain types out. It's one of those places that if they don't like you, your custom is not welcome. ![]() |
