The live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast will feature Disney's first ever gay character and love scene. US actor Josh Gad plays LeFou, a sidekick of the film's main antagonist Gaston. LeFou tries to come to terms with feelings for Gaston that swing between l*st and admiration, as a side-plot to the main story. When the first Beauty and the Beast trailer was released last year it had almost 130 million views in 24 hours. Disney are calling it their first ever exclusively gay moment on film |

Speaking with Attitude Magazine , director Bill Condon believes LeFou's role breaks new ground when it comes to LGBT visibility on screen. 'It's somebody who's just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it, he said. And that's what has its pay-off at the end, which I don't want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie |

Matt Cain, the editor of Attitude, said the film breaks new boundaries. 'It may have been a long time coming but this is a watershed moment for Disney, he told Newsbeat. He believes there's more that needs to be done to create cinema that reflects real life. It's a step in the right direction and I applaud Disney for being brave enough to make it, he said. In doing so, it will hopefully help to change attitudes and bring about real social progress. |

I don't really care for any love scenes, but when vibes are going on between people, I don't see that it matters what sex they are. The representation is there regardless. Hetro love stories aren't just for hetros after all...

I bet, if you looked back through ALL the Disney movies, there'd at least be a few instances where it was being implied that someone was gay. Or at least very camp? Maybe this is just to get publicity for the movie idk.

There's been loads of camp characters in Disney films that could have been gay, they just didn't make a big thing out of it.

@ shadow27 - 2.03.17 - 10:51am 'There's a married gay couple in Disney's Zootopia and nearly everybody missed it' Do cartoon animals count though? Yeah I googled gay characters in Disney films too. |

I dont see the point in making a character gay just for the sake of it being gay. We all know gay people exist and we all know not to be homophobic, i dont see the film gaining anything this but neither does it take away anything, it just seems abit like 'oh wow look everyone a gay kiss' as if no1s seen one before

I think the aim is so it is normalised for kids, that they see it as natural and normal, not something ugly or wrong.

@ ladibud - 2.03.17 - 06:06pm I think the aim is so it is normalised for kids, that they see it as natural and normal, not something ugly or wrong. Depends what age group, kids arent 'gay' at 5. When you hear peoples stories of coming out or realising they are gay its in the early teens, p*berty years n all that so i dont see the need to normalise it for kids younger than that age |

some 5 yr old kids have gay parents and get teased and bullied for that by their peers. so by normalising it from small may help.
