Interesting that the main islands north of Scotland are hinting at having a independence referendum or referendum joining the UK themselves rather then be in an independent Scotland who would sell its fishing rights to be in the eu

@ eyesore - 10.03.17 - 07:43pm I read an article that said oil in the north sea is in the negative due to all the decommissioning..don't know how true that is Yep, theres no money out there anymore, Aberdeen was once thriving but its been on its ars* for a couple of years now |

@ bozzalad - 10.03.17 - 07:39pm heard those same arguments used against brexit Uk has the 5th largest economy in the world, we pay more into the eu than we take out. Scotland on its own has a small economy and is subsidised by england. http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2015/03/yes-scotland-does-receive-an-unfair-share-of-public-spending-probably/ |

Why does it always come back to Oil? Scotland has many industries. There's Countries out there who rely on tourism as their main GDP. Scotland has a wealth of resources these countries can only dream of. Scots Whisky alone accounts for a quarter of the UK's Food and Drinks exports. Scotland also has a thriving gaming industry (eg, GTA). Textile exports account for 350m pounds to the UK coffers. 55pc of the UKs fishing industry is landed from Scottish waters. 30pc of the beef stock is Scottish

20pc of sheep herd.. remember Scotland only accounts for just over 8pc of the UK population. These are only a few examples of the industries Scotland has but remember per capita - that's a helluva lot of wealth. If Scotland is such a basket case, can we just take a minute to reflect on how can that be with over 290yrs direct rule from Westminister?

@ smokeyb - 10.03.17 - 06:10pm no but it would get rid of sturgeon, which wouldn't be a bad thing .... vile woman If the SNP get a 2nd referendum vote for independence and lose Sturgeon will be toast if they win it means that the SNP MP's will be gone from the UK Parliament so it's a win win situation. Assuming Scotland is independent and the EU don't allow them to join them and their economy crashes it's a triple win situation and the SNP will be toast |

@bozzalad | 11 March 17 | |
scotland failing will never be a win

@eyesore | 11 March 17 | |

That deficit won't allow the eu to let them join them. Plus this year's budget Scotland has been given an extra 400m to spend. Think Scotland only exports a small percentage to the eu and doing business with your biggest trading partner would be a problem because of trading tariffs been set against the uk |

Surely FM is entitled to a second? I'm no historian but wasn't the act of union a no choice but for mps to sign it for Scotland as the Scots lost a lot of money investing it overseas?
