How to communicate with someone who doesn't speak your language... We had a Dutch lorry driver come to collect a load this morning... Our guy in the office told him to go and reverse onto loading bay 7 and wait... The Dutch guy didn't understand so our guy in the office then proceeded to repeat what he had said, slowly, louder and strangely with fewer words each time... 'Go and wait on bay 7' 'Go to BAY 7' 'GO BAAY 7' 'BAAAAAY 7' *Holding up 7 fingers* 'SEVEN' And at that the driver nodded his head.. Said 'ok'... Then left the site and promptly returned back at 7! Text book.... |

I've known Dutch with c0ckney accents ...depends from whence they learn it ...I've also known Dutch that cannot speak English

Last year I met a group of young Romanians ...the one that spoke most English used to burst out laughing whenever a person with a Scots accent said 'six' because to his ears it sounded exactly like 'sex'

Since I've still got 28 minutes on the clock and nothing to do, I'll gladly explain myself since I'm getting paid to do so... The 'Dutch' lorry driver muttered the word 'ok' only and nothing else... Since he was delivering a load to Holland I naturally (maybe wrongly) assumed he was Dutch.... I apologise if I have insulted every Dutch person who ever lived by assuming that this non English speaking driver was Dutch... Now, do we have any more business to attend to or has that satisfied your overwhelming need to query the drivers nationality? |
