@ 3mel - 30.01.18 - 04:43pm inflicting your vision of a manifest destiny type mindset onto others, often to the cost of their lives can't be accurately called 'a mistake'. unless that would be sufficient to you in similar circumstances. It's what it was at the time though. The turks and the Spanish both did the same, Spanish probablyworse but it's only the British what get attacked for it |

And at the same time providing infrastructure and medicine and education and a legal system that lasts to this day. Interrupt our way of life, lol, because the tribal and feudal system was really progressing well. |

@ 3mel - 30.01.18 - 04:53pm they won't be thinking 'if only other people would come here to asset strip this land and interrupt our way of life'. they won't be thinking they live in a shiithole either. Liberia was never colonized, who gets the blame there? |

Also in India, it was the Hindu custom where a widow was automatically burnt to death if her husband died. The British at least tried to stop that

Interrupt our way of life, lol, because the tribal and feudal system was really progressing well. that's applying your standards to their lives. living on the land within the societal structures they'd devised for themselves was enough for them to endure for thousands of years. |

We have idiots here who want to subject some of their own people to the tribal laws. Fortunately we have a Constitution and strong Roman Dutch and English law and the magistrate promptly chucked the tribal 'king' into prison. Of course we got the usual SJW bleating about 'muh colonial laws' but it was the ordinary, poor people on the ground who were protected. |

I dont really see too much positive for the country that gets taken over violently then expoited financially, sure for the conquering country its pretty good. Id find very little pride in anything that was created through murder, r*pe and hostile occupation.

@ 3mel - 30.01.18 - 05:02pm that's applying your standards to their lives. living on the land within the societal structures they'd devised for themselves was enough for them to endure for thousands of years. Bottom line is colonialism was a net benefit, I can't even fathom the attitude that says leave them be, while the rest of the world moves ahead. Thank goodness that wasn't done to us. |

@ kimjongl - 30.01.18 - 04:58pm Liberia was never colonized, who gets the blame there? I've no idea about the history of Liberia's 'modernisation'. I doubt it's been free of commercial interests from outside. |
