Symptoms
The dog will suddenly act aggressively to anyone nearby, but minutes later will be calm and normal. The dog does not seem to remember or realize what has taken place and may act immediately friendly to the person(s) whom they attacked. Attacks such as these cannot be prevented with training because it is a problem that the dog seemingly cannot consciously control. [2] The attack will happen without apparent cause. [3]
Shortly prior to an attack, their eyes can glaze over and go hard, followed by the dog snapping into alert mode before finally attacking. It appears to an outsider like an exaggerated form of aggression. Often a specific dog can have a certain trigger, such as the unexpected approach of people whilst he or she is sleeping. Dr. Roger A. Mugford, to whom the term is attributed, [1] identified that the problem starts on average at around seven and a half months old in English Springer Spaniels. However some of his research subjects showed signs at as early as three months and as late as two years. He did find however that many dogs displayed their first symptoms on or around one of the five critical learning periods identified in dogs. These occur at six weeks old, 12 weeks old, 24 weeks or six months, one year old and two years old.

it kinda blows the old you don't get bad dogs just had owners thing .. meaning it maybe not always the owner or upbringing to blame when it comes to dogs attacking

i think some people are much the same
some of us are not so different
saying that the only dog i have seen behave that way was a golden labrador
ended with a lost finger n a trip to the vet, the owner couldn't stand to be parted from her

I was bite by a Labrador as well... 5 stitches and the nerve bit off... everyone was shocked the owner included

Never seen that before but I am a proper trigger for this blokes Labrador on the morning walk in to work. It keeps getting closer and closer. Last Wednesday it came all the way across the field to stand there snarling at me. I don't want to hurt the animal but if it goes for me then I will.

The bloke says I am the only person the dog reacts like this to. The other dog he has a srappy looking thing seems to like me just fine.

this spaniel that would chase and even wait for me was pure evil and calculating. .. it would never go for anyone else but me and when anyone was with me he wouldn't go for me either... he knew when I came home and waited for me... i tried the back way round and he'd wait for me there too.... I spent a whole year running away from him

we and he lived in a block of flats... I assume he lived there as he was always waiting for me on the top of the stairs.

It's a pretty secluded place where it happens, its woods to one side and fields to another. The deer don't even give a fu*k about me anymore but this dog hates me.
