It depends who you count as the bad guy. In some films, the bad guy was the one portrayed as the hero, or even if they had to give them an unsuccessful ending, they were the one the film promotes you to support. Take Charlie Croker, of The Italian Job. A criminal and a thief, out to steal. Smokey and the Bandit - who didn't love the Bandit?! But Smokey was the law... |

mikey has a point, think 80s action blockbusters. the hero was always technically a mass murderer casually dispatching folk left and right as the audience cheered him on. even today it's not seen as dubious. |

I cant think of many 80's movie where the central character didn't have one redeeming quality at least that made him less than a movie villain and more of an anti hero.
