@ eyesore - 10.07.20 - 12:23pm Remarkably quiet over HK though don't you think. Japan Australia US UK all taking action ....but the EU nothing .... The EU through their president have publicly condemned China over HK ...and are seeking a convergence with international partners ...it was going to be the U.S but with comments in Bolton's book about trump '' depending '' on China to help him win the election ( how I don't know I haven't read it ) it'll be someone else. ...as we are not in the Bloc now we have no influence over what that might be ![]() |

Thats what would happen regardless of Covid, Brexit etc, more people shopping online, the shopping centres are changing and in some way for the better, less shops, more coffee shops , restaurants and cafes, like malls abroad, ground floor shopping, next floor eating, top floor cinema, arcade and entertainment zone.

@ piggle - 10.07.20 - 01:25pm I'd be far more optimistic about it if Brexit wasn't looming. All these big brands fu*king off leaves room for the individual experience. A gaping hole for communities of small businesses to flourish in... But not having the same trade exposure with the EU is gonna pull the teeth a bit I'm writing them all down, so I can boycott them when they inevitably return. Would a business pull out of the Falklands if the locals left the UK? Only a British one trying to blackmail them. I suppose it happens the world over, when any country passes a political landmark. And I understand that figures have to add up. But when a business wants to treat us like an inconvenient commodity whilst servicing the three-figure number of countries also out the EU, I will remember who they were. |

@ mikeymk - 10.07.20 - 02:48pm I'm writing them all down, so I can boycott them when they inevitably return. Would a business pull out of the Falklands if the locals left the UK? But when a business wants to treat us like an inconvenient commodity whilst servicing the three-figure number of countries also out the EU, I will remember who they were. business is about maximising profits sadly, first and foremost. I don't think there are any companies saying they'll move because they don't like brexit. most I've heard say, if being here means the cost of trade goes up too much, they will have to look at other options. I'd like to live in country where big corporations were proud to be paying their proper share of tax and not ducking out on it. where companies were proud to keep people in fairly decent jobs (and so helping the economy). I'd make a list of companies who did that and choose to spend my money with them first if I could. |

People should be siding with companies who reflect their values. Whether that be how they treat their staff, the environment, or whatever. There is no greater power than market forces, and the customer is the beholder.

I had this half idea for an open ended topic, as a group list out some really successful businesses in our various countries and then see if you if could find any 'deal breaker' news stories about them. the idea being, can a company be really successful without fucking people, the environment or decent business practices over ? |

@ ogdenz - 10.07.20 - 02:04pm How are remainers to blame for the devastation that Bwexit is going to deliver? Why are you trashing this topic with brexit what has little to do with it? |
