'Charles-Henri Gallois, the President of Generation Frexit, the political movement set up in July 2020, hailed Britain following Brexit, adding he hopes 2021 will allow the French people to also be able to express themselves democratically on our membership of the EU.'

EMMANUEL MACRON has been sent a huge warning that Frexit is now possible and desirable as pressure continues to build on the French President following the UK's historic departure from the European Union

Gallois posted a link to the website referendum-frexit.org, which warns that following Brexit, Frances contribution to the EU will increase by 5billion a year to 29billion, which is the equivalent of 720 hospitals or 14,000 schools that will not be built. The website adds the EU recovery plan from the coronavirus pandemic will bind France until 2058 and cost us dearly: 40 billion net. |

The website also warns: What is all this money going to be used for? The EU has been around for 27 years. It has already cost us hundreds of billions of euros. However, the situation in France has continued to deteriorate. With covid-19, we are now in full collapse. The time has therefore come to take stock of the European Union. We must vote by referendum on our membership of the European Union: respect for democracy and the future of the French people require it. |

The information regarding Sweden was part of a link that I didn't open while posting, so the situation there will require an update, I believe the issue of far right politics is a problem for Swedish Democracy, so far voters have decided to make no changes to current agreements regarding free movement.. I believe exiting the EU is another subject entirely..

of course this French guy is gonna talk up how meaningful this is. it's what the people on the street think and how many think it that counts. even then, anyone really see Macron saying sure, have a referendum ? |

I think the yellow vest protesters, civil rights activists, agriculture campaigners, and students from all different backgrounds will have an opinion worth sharing.. I don't think they will wait for makron to decide or even stay in office..

And I suppose the far right will have difficulty banging on about immigration like they did here, they are busy provoking Muslims into attacking the state so I will guess this matter will be for the people themselves..

Besides, as a democracy both the EU and France have to grant a referendum as a democratic right, remembering the vote on a european constitution in 2005 the people rejected the very principle of it.. which later developed into the Lisbon treaty where no public consultation took place..

I think you just contradicted yourself within the same reply. we only got our referendum as a product of conservative party internal politics. |

No actually Cameron held it as a campaign promise.. then he dithered for so long he had no choice to present it.. and that also is the basis why they had to split the party because there was no fair representation that cons would accept to make the rules for leaving, as we would never have gone thru this debacle if we didn't have them in power, negotiations would have been very much to our advantage had conservatives stepped down after the leave vote.. remember being denied the election? Wow what a cringe moment to remember..
