Imam Suyuti states in 'Al Hawi Lil Fatawa' 2 have traced the mawlid 2 it's established origin based on a hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.When the Prophet(saw) arrived in Medina He(saw) found that the jews fasted on the day of Ashura.When He(saw) inquired abt it they said 'this is the day Allah(swt) drowned the Pharaoh and saved Moses(as).Therefore we fast 2 show our gratitude2 Allah(swt)'
