kaspersky internet security is only 15 quid for a years licence in pc world . it will offer you the best protection possible using less resources than a separate firewall / anti virus and malware protection freeware would use

malware bytes and avira. Both are free. :)

if your using 32bit win7 then superantispyware and avira are both free and both do real time scaning. malware bytes and a-squared are 2 excelent alternatives but dont to active scan on the free version.

malwarebytes gives you no realtime protection against malware

Eset nod32 is excellent, and it only has a very small footprint

Prevention requires understanding and some common sense. There is no real way around that. Safe computing + no sleeping on the wheel + proper AV and firewall, for starters :)

REAL prevention requires following the principle of the least privilege. or at least trying to. And manual tweaking of various options across system and software. Weed out all the insecure stuff especially something that isn't used and/or doesn't cause negative effects when disabled or removed. You can start with killing off all autoruns for example.

If ccleaner happens to kill off some dormant viruses or temp files made/used by some, it's only just a positive coincidence :) It's a good maintenance tool of course. Also DL anything from official server when possible.

Do yourself the favor and by yourself Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. I use Kaspersky from 2004 and I haven't been disappointed one day it's really the best. I have had the full versions of AVG,Nod32,Avast ,Biddeffender and I can go. Kaspersky Internet Security is worth the money they ask don't waste your time and money with all the free versions do it right from the start.

Browser security, this is probably your highest priority of all. Maybe even higher than your base system security http://is.gd/cK4ou- (CERT.gov) Quote: Because web browsers are used so frequently, it is vital to configure them securely. --This is often completely overlooked and there is no guidance given to you from suppliers. All products come AS IS and it's your job to keep them right.--

Yes like runestar said your browser security is very important that is why you should go for a internet security that covers everything just go the the kaspersky home site and decide for yourself
