I must be REALLY bored but whatever . . . My moms 512MB Gigabyte HD2600pro died . . . For the 2nd time. Got an RMA the 1st time arnd but jst tossed it in the bin this time. Does anyone know of a similar issue? My 1GB Force3D HD4850 has been running great for much longer than either of the Gigabytes, which is quite strange to me. Overheating is out of the question; aftermarket cooling. |

the 5850 and 5870 do have issues with grayscreening. its down to the vrm overheating. in a lot of cases, even with 3rd party coolers. i had to replace mine on my 5870 with the arctic cool xtreme. but i did notice others didnt cover the vrm quite as effectivley. mt m8 also has both of the 48 series and both his keep sending his pc to sleep again he's using 3rd party coolers. and his vrm is covered

had a similiar problem a few years ago, in my case permanent damage was caused. Hopefully this time its not the case.

Why use a conductive thermal paste? Of course you'll have heat problems. Shouldve used Artic Mx-4 thermal compound which is not conductive

The whole of the HD 2 series was a bit pants tho TBH i saw more than one 2900 smoke itself. Maybe this will prove to be a mystery that no one even you should care about. 2600 was a bit naff i dont know many who bought one either

well for a start kinpin you dont use paste on gfx cards you use tape as the chips often face downwards meaning the heatsyncs need to be stuck to the chips. paste wont stick the heatsyncs as soon as the chips heat up the syncs will migrate or just fall off the chips due to the paste being a liquid.
