Most of the time when using desktops or laptops, you sometimes blunder ending up with a small, medium or huge problem to fix. My reason for starting this post is so as to learn from each others experience(s) so that we can avoid the same misfortunes happening in future. We can commence using this pattern, the blunder or challenge you faced and how you solved it (them), or in whatever way you may please |

I will start, early this year, I used Tuneup registry defrag on windows 7 64-bit, as usual it required a restart, but i don't know what happened during the registry defrag process, the machine couldn't restart, just gave a blue screen of 'death'. Startup repair couldn't work, and all system restore points were made redundant , so i was forced to re-install but luckily for me there is a Windows...

keep all your personal files on a non system partition or fast external media, other drive or other place where windows will hardly be able to touch them in case format and reinstall is needed. this includes programs and 8GB+ 3D games. after reinstallation, about every single program should remain intact except microsoft specific or large suits like adobe. in case you can't get the program to work,

track down the problem with process monitor, revo uninstaller etc. then make a batch file or similar one click process program to register your program with the system within minutes. usually we're talking about painless one file register operation or backing up a registry key which can then be added with reg add in batch. the program that requires something like this is sims3 for example.

with this, backup and loss of files is pretty much history and reinstallation a 20-40 minutes coffe brake job. you can practicaly reinstall everyday and have your pc on and running exactly like before for about extra 20 minutes or less.

The cup holder on the front of my desktop stopped working once, I pressed the button but it wouldn't open. I was told the power connector had came loose. It's fixed now though http://is.gd/CdKsf3

if your system wont boot and you need to get important files off it, find another computer, a 4gb or more usb stick and install ubuntu to run off the usb stick. You can copy your files off the old disk to the usb or another usb or cd/dvd etc. Follow the instructions on the ubuntu website.

i should add, you can run it off a cd/dvd if you have to. Set your boot priority in the bios to either, cd drive or usb.
