Because you're using the 'black' edition of Windows xp, theres a program fused into the startup, its known as windows post install.. And the Black edition apparently silent installs upto 10 extra programs. I've read that this may be down to drivers being incompatible, so first of all, try resetting your bios to fail safe defaults. If to no avail then reinstalling Windows again may be a wise option. Make sure you've no essential accessories plugged in to your pc, i.e bluetooth adapter, gamepad etc.. I personally don't recommend using any modified version of windows due to the risk of

malware.. And for all you know, the shop owner may of modified the version of windows xp you're using to spy on you using a remote program etc.. Grab another copy of windows xp if you can if reinstalling doesn't help. If you do manage to get it working, make sure you run an anti malware program, such as malwarebytes. And one other thing, a simple reset may fix all your problems.

Just found the problem. The reason why i reinstall my xp is because of the rundll virus. After pressing the Task manager, surprisingly i still found that virus. So i kill it. Turns out it works! Now choosing the desktop properties.

rundll is not a virus. it is a process that does what it sais - run a dll as an executable/process. behind rundll anything can be hidden,to find out what really is out there you need a program like process explorer. rundll32.exe was probably responsible for the start up optimisation/post install program that was running for 3 hours, possibly non responsive

Yes, you are right about that. I always see rundll run on the task manager when we open control panel. But i've heard that some virus actually uses the name 'rundll' to replicate the file, whereas i don't open the control panel or anything. I don't know why everytime rundll files run in the system, the setup installation won't process. I think the one i killed was a virus, not the genuine system.

Anyway, i have managed to finish the installation process of this windows xp black edition. But there are some problems, why i cannot see the log off menu and stand by/sleep mode? Could you please help me..

i don't know about the logoff menu but for standby,it usually means you are missing some drivers. i think you need a disk that came with your motherboard to install a better driver for your system then the one provided by the o/s

yeah,i agree. you can make your own 'black edition' just by swapping a few visual styles. in fact. you can get something even better, and that only using the original xp. still, man's got a problem and now when its allready installed...
