Most of the computer users here are on Windows. Not much info on, for instance, using a mobile phone as modem for a Linux box. But I'm a Linux-head, and I'm sure there are more of us here. I can tell you how to use your phone as modem. And if we got together, who knows what info we could share. If anyone's into forming a Prodigits Linux Group, post here |

Im with u, mine is PCLinuxOS, its great u must try it guys, bt i cnt connect via GPRS on my 3220, this is due 2 my phone cable itself(DKU5) using its own drivers, and then it addition the phone having its own modem drivers, I think it should be much easier on my 6680 since its cable driver is DKU2.

I use Suse Linux and Knoppix. I've been trying to get my N70 to work in Suse for 2 weeks now. Been trying to get GPRS Easy Connect to work. Check it out at, www.gprsec.hu

K_s: what software do you use to connect your 6230 to Suse? You dont have to use a blank username or password! Use web/web and it should work!

Suse detected my N70 with no problem at all. I then setup the dial up connection just like I do in XP but for KInternet refuses to connect. EVen when I right-click on the tray icon and click on 'Dial in' nothing happens! Has anyone experienced similar problems??

Sorry I aint been here for a while. I use ubuntu and i use my nokia 3220 as modem no problem. I use the dialler program wvdial to make the connection. 1st i connect phone to pc using data cable, equivalent to dku5 i believe. Make sure u have wvdial installed, its default with breezy ubuntu. Next run wvdialconf command. I think u must run it as root, or sudo wvdialconf. This scans your pc for modems, and as yr phone is linked with cable, it will detect it. On my pc its detected at /dev/ttyUSB0. Wvdialconf also creates a file, /etc/wvdial.conf, u must edit that with data from the wvdialconf output plus info from yr provider (username, password, number to ring etc) (Continued...)

Ah hell that didnt come out very well. Meant to be a copy of my /etc/wvdial.conf file, I copied and pasted it but the line breaks didnt work for some reason. Still, the info is there, u can see yr own file and see how to edit it i think. For orange u dont need username or password but if u leave em blank in the file it wont work so i used A and B here. Stupid forum! Should say Username (equals sign) A and so on. Anyway, u now enter command sudo wvdial. Various connecting text. Then it seems to stop. Its holding connection open for u to use. Go to GUI and launch browser, eg Firefox, it should connect. U may have to configure it to use ppp0, mine did that automatically. (continued...)
