this is true, according to telcom the new technology that is goin to be activated in july, is going to have a significant effect on the way we use the internet(speed nd price)... We currently pay R100 for abt 500mb, after integration of this technology we are expected to get 5GB for the R100, that is 10 times less than what we currently say... ![]() |

they are laying down a fibre optic line from europe or somewhere, when thats up and running the prices will decrease, but i also heard they are delaying that as much as possible...

''yup, they've been saying that for a while now but they still r*ping us.lol. the prices are still the same'' What he said. The prices should drop after Seacom Lands in June but we will have to wait and see. Our prices are stil more than 50times the international norms

i know for a fact that telkom will cut prices by a substantial margin... However, i'm not so confident abt cellphone service providers doing the same... I rate we won't be get unlimited data bundles that most of us have wanted, unless 1 of them gready providers decide to be consumer orientated, which i really doubt...

d*mn! 5GB for R100.....only Zuma can make this happen with his machine, but arnt the mobile networks supozd to comply with the standard rates. Oh another thing how much do UKs pay for a gig?

Forget about the UK. In sweden they have 7.2 HSUPA (3g on steroids) for a mere 30 euros. Unlimited usage(un capped as we would call it in south africa). The sad fact is, most of the internet providers are directly or indirectly property of the goverment(they privatised Telkom but bought 51percent of the company) so that they can make profit from them. Telkom bought up Vodacom, Vodacom Took Iburst- Sentech was lisenced under the SABC. So it might look as if there is competition..

but in reality its just a nice Goverment granted Oligopoly. What we need is More Submarine Cables(besides Sat3 and Seacom). And Local Loop Unbundling(which the UK is just as slow at implementing as we are). That is why their Cellphone prices are so un competative to date.
