Flat 6 is technically the best design for an 'engine', But not necessarily to fit into a car. Lots of other factors.

Any engine can be balanced by component balancing..thats how they make spoon engines.

VR6 is a tightly angled vee engine with the cylinders very close together. Instead of a conventional 45 degrees plus bank separation they typically have less than 20 degrees

D flat6 configuration is d best performance design as it uses a crossplane crankdesign. D straight6 wil b best fo durability (if it boasts a longer stroke than bore) as its big on low rev torque. D v6 is basicaly just a compact design of a 6cyl and allow d crank to accomodate two bigend journals between mainbrgs. So u loose atleast 3 mainbrgs from straigt to v6 and that spares weight nd cost. So in short, no configuration is the best, its a matter of practicality nd cost.
