Which would you say it best for using a 360 on a 40 inch set? |

Games switch to 720p when you start them, don't they? 1080i is the best res for the console menus. Games must look fugly on that old console though.

1080i are double frames where as 720p is single frame pixels motion. 1080i look s**t with fast sports on, what is video games on it

On a 720P HDTV? 720p obviously. 1080i introduces interlacing artifacts on fast motion scenes. Which is generally what most games are about. 360's scaler is pretty decent though.

I have switched between the two and it's hard to tell what's best. If anything I would say 1080i looks a tad better. Doing research hasn't helped either. From what I have read, 720p for smaller tv's, 1080i for bigger tv's.

You're an idiot. TV size is irrelevant. If it's a 720p HDTV, then you use 720p for games. End of story.

I am an idiot because what I have read seems to suggest 1080i is better on a bigger tv? right ok.

No, because you made this topic then ignored all the advice contained therein, preferring to believe something written elsewhere about screen size which makes no difference to choosing between interlaced or progressive scan. You have been told the difference, 1080i technically carries more data, but because it scans at half speed compared to 720p, you end up with artifacts generating around fast moving objects. Therefore on most video games which have a whole s**t load of fast motion, 720p going to offer a marginally cleaner picture. You probably wouldn't notice anyway, and console image quality is hardly good in the first place. If it's a 720p native HDTV, then you set it to 720p and forget about it. I'll say again, End of story. |

Ignored what advice? someone said 720, someone said 1080. Someone said games change to 720 with a? I have read up a lot on this, but it's all the same, some say 1080i, some say 720p. From my experience I would say 1080i is better, but I haven't tested it enough to come to a conclusion.
